Many artists prefer to give handmade gifts to the people they love. If this is the case for you, it is never too early in the year to start thinking about creating holiday gifts! How to Make a Glitter Wine Glass

There are so many reasons that people enjoy drinking wine. To celebrate, to pair with a delicious meal, to unwind after a long day, or because…kids. What ever the reason and whatever the wine, people need a glass to drink it from. Enter the glitter wine glass!

We will admit that there are some beautiful wine glasses out there that need no help from us.  But there is just something about a hand crafted glass that makes the user feel so special. That’s what makes them fun to use but also fun to gift.

When it comes to selecting the glass that you want to spice up, there is no need to get super fancy with your selection. After all, you are going to be adding the bling yourself. We have seen some perfectly respectable wine glasses at the dollar store that would be great for this project. If you are worried about durability, remember that you will be adding a layer of Counter Culture DIY Artist Resin at the end. The Artist Resin not only gives your glass the perfect shine, it also gives it an extra layer of durability.

There are so many different glitters to choose from for this project. Counter Culture DIY Glitters come in all shades and levels of coarseness. We have chunky glitters for big bling and more fine glitters for simple elegance. If you like a chunkier glitter we recommend giving our Quick Coat a try.

Applying two layers of Quick Coat to the glitter will help fill in those tiny spaces that tend to occur with chunky glitter. This will smooth out your glitter and prevent you from needing a second coat of Artist Resin.

Instructions

  1. Clean the wine glass to remove any dust or fingerprints. Let it dry thoroughly before beginning your project.
  2. Next, apply tape to any areas of the glass that you would like to remain glitter free.
  3. Using a paint brush, apply the adhesive to the portion of the wine glass where you want the glitter.
  4. Holding the glass over your catch paper, sprinkle the glitter until all of your adhesive is covered. Gently press it into place if necessary.
  5. Allow the glass to dry completely. While you wait, pour the excess glitter back into the container.
  6. After the first layer of glitter has dried, make sure there is no excess glitter on the glass that hasn’t adhered. You can use a clean paint brush to gently do this.
  7. Next, apply a second coat of adhesive, followed by a second layer of glitter.
  8. Again, let the glass dry and then check for any loose glitter.
  9. Next, mix equal parts of Part A and Part B of Counter Culture DIY Artist Resin mixing well for 2-3 minutes (see containers for thorough instructions).
  10. Use a paint brush or your gloved fingers to apply an even coat of the Artist Resin to the entire outside of the cup of the wine glass. This is much simpler to do if you have an turner and can place your glass on it while you work.
  11. Allow your glass to cure for a full 24 hours.

That’s it! This is a fairly simple project. However, you can always make it more intricate by adding multiple shades of glitter and using tape to make unique designs. Also, we mentioned making these beauties for holiday gifts but they would also be perfect as bridal showers or wedding gifts. It is also popular for brides-to-be to give gifts to their bridesmaids and these glasses would be wonderful for that too.
