One of the most thrilling aspects of creating a rhinestone tumbler is the sheer amount of creativity involved. The blank canvas of a tumbler allows you to design anything from intricate patterns to personalized names or messages. Whether it’s pastel hues or a cute eyelash design, the sky’s the limit!

Once you start, you might find yourself hooked. There’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing a simple tumbler transform into a sparkly masterpiece, one rhinestone at a time. And let’s not forget the therapeutic aspect – the repetitive process of placing each rhinestone can be a great stress reliever.

Perfect for Gifting

A custom-made rhinestone tumbler makes for a thoughtful and personal gift. With the holidays coming up, these pretties can be the perfect gift. But they can also be shared any time of year. From birthdays to bridal showers, these tumblers can be tailored to suit any occasion or individual. Imagine the look on your friend’s face when they unwrap a tumbler sparkling with their name or favorite quote!

And, if you’re worried about the process being too complicated, don’t be! Dolores explains each step of the process and shows us how simple it can be. Placing each rhinestone does take time. But it definitely isn’t complicated!

Rhinestone Application Tool Choices

Wax Pencil – Your New Best Friend

Let’s start with a tool that’s a game-changer for any rhinestone project – the wax pencil! This tool is absolutely brilliant for picking up those tiny rhinestones and placing them exactly where you want. No more fumbling around with tweezers or dropping rhinestones all over the place! Plus, the wax tip can be shaped and reshaped as needed. Talk about a handy helper!

Rhinestone Applicator – The Magic Wand

Think of this tool as your magic wand for rhinestone application. It uses heat to apply hot-fix rhinestones, melting the adhesive on the back and securing them in place. It’s perfect for fabric projects! Just remember to be careful and let it cool down after use. Safety first, fellow crafters!

Sometimes, you just can’t beat the classics. A pair of tweezers might be simple, but they’re super effective when it comes to applying rhinestones. Opt for a pair with a fine tip for the best results.

Rhinestone Template – The Road Map to Sparkle

Okay, technically not a tool for applying rhinestones, but hear me out! A rhinestone template is a must-have when you’re working on complex designs. It’s like a roadmap guiding you to your final sparkling destination! You can make your own templates for all sorts of fun and fabulous designs. Or you can get them from artists like Dolores who love to design their own.

However you choose to do it, templates ensure that your design turns out the way you want it to. A must have when you’re investing the time it takes to apply each tiny rhinestone to your cup.

Using Epoxy to Apply Rhinestones to Your Tumbler

There are about as many rhinestone adhesives available as there are application tools. And any of them will get the job done. But if you want to be sure your rhinestones are permanently adhered and have a flexible work time, then epoxy as your adhesive is the way to go!

Dolores uses our Fast Set Epoxy to apply the rhinestones to her tumbler. She loves that she gets an hour of work time instead of trying to beat the dry time of the glue. This gives her time to adjust her pattern or fix any goofs. Where with glue, it’s stuck and you’re done.

The great thing about Fast Set though, is that it does cure up in just a couple of hours. So you have plenty of work time, but not too much dry time!

We love the peace of mind that comes from using Fast Set for our rhinestones too. Glue can fail you over time, leaving gaps in your beautiful design. But resin won’t let you down! Once that epoxy has cured, you can be sure your gems aren’t going anywhere.

The resin also protects your base coat color. That way you won’t have to worry about the areas of your cup not covered by stones loosing it’s color. The Fast Set acts as a sealant as well as an adhesive. So many things to love about it!

Yield: 1 tumbler

Instructions

  • Start by lightly sanding your cup with sandpaper to scuff it up a bit. Then wash and dry it to remove any debris.
  • Next paint a base coat of the Bordeaux Shock Paint and let it dry.
  • Once the paint is dry, use a pencil to draw straight lines and mark out your plaid pattern.
  • Then, mix up a batch of Fast Set according to the package instructions. Measure equal amounts of Parts A and B. Then pour part B into part A and mix well for 3-5 minutes.
Be sure to mix the Fast Set well just like you would for a cup.
  • Now apply a layer of epoxy to one section of your cup. Use your rhinestone pick up tool to carefully apply your rhinestones. Delores uses a 5 and 5 alternating pattern with her cup.
  • Continue to add your stones, you can do this a couple of different ways. Dolores does all of one color at a time. Then moves on to the next color. Or you can work one row at a time, alternating colors as you go.

The Finishing Touches

Why settle for a plain tumbler when you can have one that sparkles with personality? Whether you’re a fan of bold colors, soft pastels, or monochromatic elegance, your rhinestone tumbler can be a reflection of you!

The time and effort you put into creating a rhinestone tumbler are well worth it when you see the final result. There’s nothing quite like sipping your favorite beverage from a cup that’s not just practical, but also a piece of art you created yourself.

So, are you ready to embark on your sparkling DIY journey? Remember, every rhinestone you place brings you one step closer to a dazzling masterpiece. So why not give it a try? Trust us; you’ll love this fun, blingy adventure. And Dolores is here to hold our hands each step of the way!
