Hey there, fellow crafting enthusiasts and resin rebels! Get ready to embark on a colorful journey where tie dye meets resin magic to create stunning coasters that radiate good vibes and groovy energy.
Today, Meg Epps of Maker Magic with Meg Epps by Lyndly Grove is showing us the art of making tie dye resin coasters using Dispersion Colors, glitter, and adding a sprinkle of "hippie soul" with a vinyl decal at the end.
Let's swirl, sparkle, and infuse our creations with a touch of retro charm
How to Make Tie Dye Resin Coasters
Summer is the perfect time for breaking out the tie dye and the cool drinks. These fabulous hippie coasters combine both of those things!
Meg walks us through the process step by step so we can learn to create our own retro style coasters.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Channel your inner hippie and choose your tie dye color pallet. We have listed all the shades that Meg used for her coasters. But you can use any color combinations that you love.
Our neon shades of Dispersion Colors are a perfect fit for this project!
Step 2: Tie Dye Magic Unleashed
Separate your combined resin into medicine cups and add Dispersion Colors to each one, creating a vibrant palette reminiscent of tie dye patterns.
Swirl, blend, and layer the colors in your coaster molds, allowing them to intermingle and form psychedelic designs that transport you back to the '70s—a celebration of freedom, expression, and individuality in every swirl and stroke.
Step 3: Sparkle and Shine
To add a touch of sparkle and dazzle to your tie dye resin coasters, sprinkle glitter on top of the colored resin. Let the glitter dance and shimmer in the resin, creating a mesmerizing effect that captures the light and adds a magical dimension to your coasters. It's like capturing stardust in resin, infusing your creations with a sprinkle of cosmic charm!
Step 4: Peace, Love, and Vinyl Decals
Once your tie dye resin coasters are cured and gleaming with glittery goodness, it's time to add a final touch of "hippie soul" with a vinyl decal featuring groovy designs like peace signs, flowers, or inspirational quotes.
Apply the decal to the center of each coaster, letting it complement the tie dye patterns and adding a whimsical, retro flair that speaks to the free spirit within you.
Step 5: Spread Good Vibes
As you unveil your tie dye resin coasters adorned with "hippy soul" vinyl decals, feel the positive energy and good vibrations they exude. Use these coasters to bring a touch of nostalgia, joy, and laid-back vibes to your space—whether you're sipping on a cup of herbal tea or sharing laughs with friends, let these handmade treasures be a reminder of peace, love, and crafting creativity.

Step By Step Instructions
-
Start by mixing up a batch of Artist Resin according to the package instructions. Measure equal amounts of Parts A and B. Then pour part B into part A and mix well for 3-5 minutes. Be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of your cup as you go, as well as your mixing stick. This ensures that all of your epoxy will be well incorporated.
Pro Tip: Pour your epoxy into another cup, scraping it all out. Then mix for a few more minutes.
- Pour your combined resin into 5 separate medicine cups.
- In one cup add your glitter and mix well to combine.
- In another cup, add a drop or two of the Poppin' Pink and stir. Repeat this process with the remaining colors and remaining cups.
- Next make sure your molds are free of dust and debris. Use the sticky side of some tape to remove anything that has dropped.
Pouring Your Tie Dye Coasters
- Now pour a layer of the remaining clear resin into the bottom of your coaster molds. Use a heat gun to pop any bubbles and help the resin move into place.
- Add the glitter resin to the center of each coaster, it will spread a little as is levels.
- Next start to add your colors. Pour the Plum Crazy in a circular pattern around the glitter. Then work your way out, pouring your other colors in the same way.
- Once your colors are poured, drizzle in some of the glitter resin throughout the coasters.
- Use the heat gun again to pop bubbles and get the resin moving a bit.
- Next take a toothpick and, starting at your glitter center, pull from the inside all the way to the edge of the coaster. Repeat the process around the whole of the coasters.
- Then swirl your toothpick around and through the glitter centers.
- Allow your coasters to cure and then enjoy demolding them.
Add Your Decal and Doming Layer
- Once your coasters have been cured and demolded it's time to add your decal. Lay out your decal to see exactly where you want it before starting.
- Then remove the backing and press the decal into place. Use a squeegee to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles.
- Give your coasters a layer of Quick Coat to seal in your decal.
- Next, place your coasters (upside down) on top of an upside down cup. Mix another small batch of resin. Add the White Snow Dispersion Color and stir it well to combine.
- Pour the white resin onto the bottoms of your coasters and use a gloved finger and heat gun to carefully cover the whole bottom with resin.
- Let the resin cure one more time and enjoy your coasters!
