Easy DIY holiday ornaments are such a great project to have in your arsenal. They are simple to do, cure in a snap, and make great gifts!

This is a holiday resin project that is fun to do with your kids or grandkids too. Their simplicity makes them low stress. And, with the glitter already in the paint, we can keep the mess to a minimum!

These ornaments also make fantastic last minute gift ideas. Since the Sparkle paint dries quickly and the UV Resin cures in a snap, you can make these ornaments in a matter of minutes!

The results are a beautiful handmade Christmas ornament that looks like it took hours of planning and work to make. Don't worry, your secret is safe with us!

 Gather Your Materials

Before we get into the fun part, let's talk about what you'll need. First, you'll want to grab some wooden ornament blanks. These are available at most craft stores or online marketplaces, perfect for your creative canvas.

Next, pick out your Sparkle Paint in your favorite festive colors— we have some really fun ones for you to choose from. Jingle All the Way is a fabulous Christmas green. And Candy Cane is a bright beautiful red. Icicle makes the perfect color of snow. Sugar Cookie speaks for its golden self. And Silver Dollar adds dazzle to any design!

You'll also need UV resin and a UV Lamp. This will give your ornaments that glossy, professional finish. Plus it cures in minutes which means you'll be able to make batches of ornaments.  And still have time to make batches of cookies!

Finally, don't forget the vinyl Christmas decals! These are great for adding those detailed, intricate designs without the effort of hand-painting. You can use words, images, monograms - whatever you want!

Step By Step Instructions

  • Start by deciding where on your ornament you will be placing your decals. Then choose two shades of Sparkle Paint that will compliment your decals. Karen chose white for some of her decals so she made sure to choose darker shaded for them. The white decal would get lost on the silver or white paints.
  • Now that you have your two shades, paint half of the ornament with one color and let it dry. These paints dry very quickly but if you want to speed things up even more you can use a heat gun.
  • Once your first paint color is dry, apply the second. Depending on your tastes you can use a dry brush to blend your two colors together. Or use tape to make a clean line between them.
  • After your first coat is dry, add a second coat of both colors. Let them dry. While they are drying, you can work on painting another ornament.
  • When your first ornament is dry, you can move onto the next step OR add a layer of Quick Coat over your paint. This step is optional but will make applying your decals much easier. Especially if the decal you're using has tiny detail.
  • Next apply your vinyl decals where you want them.
  • Then apply a thin layer of UV Resin to the ornament. Use a tool to spread it out to the edges. Then set it aside for a couple of minutes to self level and let any bubbles come to the surface.
  • Pop any bubbles using a lighter or alcohol. Then place the ornament under the UV lamp to cure for a few minutes. Then add a second layer of the resin and cure it again.
  • When your ornament has cured, add any finishing details that you want. Karen used UV Resin to attach rhinestones and bows for her ornaments. You can also add gold or silver leaf to the edge of your ornament. Or outline the edges with a metallic paint marker.
