How to Make a Glitter Tape Dispenser

As the back-to-school season rolls in, there's a buzz of excitement in the air—new notebooks, fresh pencils, and the chance to make a great first impression with teachers! This is the perfect time to show appreciation for those amazing educators who inspire and guide us every day.

What better way to express gratitude than with a handmade gift that sparkles with creativity? Enter the world of resin crafts, where you can create something truly special like a pencil-themed glitter tape dispenser!

 The Charm of Handmade Gifts

Handmade gifts hold a unique charm that store-bought items simply can't match. They're infused with thoughtfulness, creativity, and a personal touch that shows just how much you care.

In a world full of mass-produced products, a handcrafted item stands out as a symbol of effort and love. It's a wonderful way to thank a teacher for their dedication and hard work.

Design Variations

Once you have learned how to make a pencil themed tape dispenser, you can take that method to anything else you want! Tumblers, pens, erasers, staplers...the sky is the limit!

In another recent tutorial, Mayra showed us How to Make a Pencil Stapler with Resin and the results are just as cute!

You can also make your glitter tape dispensers in any color combination that you love. All one color, two-toned, ombre...whatever you want or love.

Right below is the Mayra's video tutorial where she shows us how it's all done. So grab your glitter and your tape dispenser and let's have some fun!

Glitter Tape Dispenser Supply List

Step By Step Instructions

  • Start by removing the tape holder from the dispenser. Set it aside and keep it for later.
  • Use sand paper to gently scuff up the surface of your tape dispenser. Clean off any debris.
  • Next use the painter's tape to tape of the bottom portion of the dispenser. If you use the Amazon Basics dispenser you will be able to follow the lip with your tape.
  • Then cover the cutting portion, the very bottom, and the rounded area where the tape holder goes. Use an exacto knife if necessary to get good crisp edges.
  • Paint the exposed areas with Pure White Pop of Color Paint. Let the paint air dry or use a heat gun to speed the process.
  • Once the paint is dry, use the painter's tape to mark off your pink area. Press the tape down well to keep bleeding to a minimum.
  • Then use a paint brush to paint the pink alcohol ink onto the stapler top. Remove the tape.
  • Next mark of the section right under the pink for the silver section. Paint that with the silver alcohol ink.
  • Now mark off the gold section and paint that. Then fill in the main area of the stapler with the yellow.
  • Finally, paint the last area of the tape dispenser black.

Time to Add the Glitter!

  • Use a paint brush or gloved finger to apply a thin layer of UV resin to the pink area of the dispenser. Then sprinkle the Pink Ladies evenly over the resin.
  • Tap the dispenser with the bottom of a large paint brush to remove any excess glitter. Then place the stapler under the UV lamp to let it cure.
  • Repeat the same process with each corresponding glitter color until your pencil is completely glittered.
  • Now it's time to seal your glitter so your lines don't smear when you apply your top coat of resin. You can use Quick Coat or Rust-Oleum for this step. Let the sealer dry completely.
  • Next apply your top coat of UV resin to the glittered portion of your dispenser. Place it under the UV lamp and allow it to cure.
  • Reassemble your tape dispenser and it's ready to ship, gift, or use!

The Finishing Touches

Now that your tape dispenser is complete, you can leave it as is or add some personal touches. Consider adding a personalized name or decal. Or outlining with a metallic paint marker or nail tape. Whatever you love, you can add!

This project makes a fantastic gift, especially for back-to-school season or as a holiday stocking stuffer. So, as the new school year begins, take a moment to craft a little magic and spread some cheer. Happy crafting, and here's to a fantastic school year ahead!
