But first, let's make this cute Halloween door hanger together!
Halloween Door Hanger Supply List
- Large round wooden blank
- Halloween DTF transfer
- Paint brush
- Dark stain or Pop of Color Shock Paint
- Pop of Color Shock Paint (one darker and one lighter, Misty used Hey Pumpkin and Cranberry)
- Painter's tape
- Heat Gun
- Hairspray
- Foils
- Double sided craft tape
- Leopard print cut on sticky paper (Misty explains how to do this in the video)
Step By Step Instructions
- Start by taping off a middle section on your wood that will be large enough to hold your transfer.
- Then stain or paint the middle section with your dark color. Misty loves to use the stain so that some of the wood grain comes through. If you do use stain, remember to go with the grain.
- Use a heat gun to speed the drying process or let it dry on its own.
- Then use a heat press at 325 degrees and press the transfer for 20 - 30 seconds. Let it sit and cool then remove the backing.
- Now tape off above and below your DTF transfer to get the door hanger ready for paint.
- Then use the darker of your two fall colors to paint the top and bottom. Let it dry. You can use your heat gun to speed things up or work on something else while you wait.
- Once your first layer of paint is dry, give it a decent coat of the hair spray and let that dry.
- Then go back in with the second color, one section at a time. To get the crackle effect, work quickly to add a good layer of the paint. Then use the heat gun, keeping it moving, to apply heat and let the cracks form.
- Repeat the same process on the other section. Then remove your tape.
- Next apply your double sided tape where your sections meet. Then cut a strip of the foil and press it down onto the tape. Starting at the center, press down and pull back as you go. Then do the other side.
- Working a few spots at a time, place your stick leopard spots down and then apply the foil to them.
