Sundae Tumbler Toppers with Culture Sculpt

Sundae Tumbler Toppers with Culture Sculpt

Melissa Smith |

Calling all tumbler makers!! Today we have a project that is just for you. Crystal Low of Crystal Low Art is teaching us how to make sundae tumbler toppers with Culture Sculpt. These toppers are so adorable and they look real enough to eat!

Sundae tumbler toppers have to be one of our favorite topper designs. Not only are they fun, they also work well for any season! Ice cream scoops look adorable on top of Christmas mugs, Halloween tumblers, and summer designs alike.

And the best part? Gone are the days when we had to use spackle to make our ice cream scoops. Now we have Culture Sculpt to make the job soooo much simpler!

Sundae Tumbler Toppers with Culture Sculpt

Learning how to make these adorable tumbler toppers opens up a whole new area of your craft. You can give them as gifts, use them as an upsell on your business site, or offer them as part of your tumbler designs.

And Culture Sculpt makes these toppers so easy to create. Culture Sculpt is a sculptable epoxy that easy to mold, self-adheres, and doesn't give you any of the trouble that clay does. No baking, no cracking, and no shrinking!

As with all of your resin art, the sky is the limit with this technique. You can combine any colors and sprinkles that you like so that your topper will match the tumbler and the season that you have planned.

Coloring your "Ice Cream"

Our artists have found several ways to add beautiful color to their ice cream tumbler toppers Dispersion Colors are a great option. Or you can always paint your scoops with Pop of Color Shock Paint after they cure.

But our latest favorite method that you artists have come up with is to mix the Pop of Color Paint right in with the Culture Sculpt! It's super easy and gives us so many fantastic color options.

Crystal Low used our Neon Shock Paints for her ice cream scoops. It gave her beautiful sherbet shades that look realistic. Want darker colors for your scoops? Just add a little more paint!

Supply List

Step By Step Instructions

  • Start by using your gloved fingers to scoop out equal amounts of Part A and Part B of the Culture Sculpt, just eyeball it. Then smoosh and knead it with your fingers until it is completely combined. You will know it is ready when it is all one color.
  • Next, separate your combined Culture Sculpt into portions for each color you will be using. Make a small indent in the center of each for your paint to go.
  • Then use a mixing stick to add a bit of your Shock Paint to the Culture Sculpt. Using your fingers again, work the color into the Culture Sculpt until it is all evenly tinted.
  • Now use the ice cream scoop to form your balls of ice cream. Don't forget the little lip around the bottom of the scoop. Sometimes you will get it in one go. Other times it may take a few tries to get it right. You have plenty of worktime with Culture Sculpt so no worries!
  • Next add your sprinkles by gently pressing them into the ice cream. Then it's time to assemble your sundae! If you are using more than one scoop, arrange them onto the tumbler topper the way you want them, gently press them together so they self adhere as they cure. If using one larger scoop, just plop it on there.
  • Use a straw to form the straw hole where you need it. Then let the scoop(s) cure.
  • Finally, attach magnets to the top of your lid and the bottom of your ice cream using UV Resin or liquid fusion glue. Depending on the size of your magnets you may need to stack them so the lid will meet the topper. Using the magnets will allow you to remove the ice cream from the lid so it can be thoroughly cleaned.

You could also take your sundae to the next level by adding Dispersion Colors to our UV Resin  to make a "chocolate" or "strawberry" sauce. And don't forget the cherry on top! Use UV Resin to attach it and your sundae is complete!
